Steps To Do Retrofit

1- Hire an Engineer and Contractor:

You should hire an engineer or architect licensed in the state of California to evaluate the strength of the building. The engineer or architect must then develop plans for the building’s seismic strengthening in compliance with this program.

You should check if the Contractor is Licensed by the Contractors State License Board of California: http://cslb.ca.gov.

You should ask the Contractor for references for similar work that he has done and call them to ask about their experience.

2- Tenant Habitability Plan (THP):

A THP is a notice served to tenants to describe what kind of work the landlord is going to do, how the work will affect the tenants, how long the work will take, and what mitigating measures by landlord or property management, including possible temporary or permanent relocation if work will be inside the units, and what will the landlord provide to lessen the impact of the work that may have on tenants. You must do this notification to tenants in writing per HCIDLA regulations by serving to tenants the housing packaged documents. After that, a construction permit will be issued and the work can start.
